The leaf “beLeaf” is a material extracted from the Alocasia Macrorrhiza plant, known also as the « Elephant ear » in Brazil, its homeland. The leaf is treated with organic oils to protect its surface, then it is varnished and lined with undyed linen mixed with polyester in order to keep its resistance and durability.
About 20 years ago, the Brazilian tannery Nova Kaeru has devoted itself to transpose her expertise on a tropical plant which is cultivated in reforestation areas. The patented invention comes from years of research and development and the company is still looking for a way to make a perfect technicality of the product without impeding its sustainability. At this time, the leaf is shipped in its natural shape with an organic oil treatment, without any modifications in order to keep its natural shadows and patterns. The organic oil treatment allows a protection of the leaf's surface in shades of green more or less contrasted. In fact the leave is conserving is unique nature, or colored for a more sophisticated effect. The organic waste from the production is composted and used as a fertilizer and treated wastewater used for watering plants.
